The Lost Dog

Last Sunday while my husband and I were walking Simon and Avery, a little dog appeared and started following us. It was clear he was lost. We've found lost dogs in our neighborhood in the past, and were able to return them home within hours by posting signs. So we took his photo and made up a handful of signs. While hanging the signs, we also knocked on every door on the street where we found him–nobody recognized him.

As we were posting the signs, a car pulled up and the driver told us he had seen the little dog earlier in the morning about six blocks away from where we found him. Obviously, this was discouraging news, so we made up more signs to cover a bigger area.

In addition to hanging signs, we listed him in the lost and found section of Craigslist, and took him to the local shelter to check for a microchip (which he didn't have) and to enter him into the shelter database for lost pets. It's been a week–nobody has called.

We started calling him Squeak because he sometimes, well, squeaks. We think he's around two-years-old and is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. With Simon and Avery and our very busy schedules, we just don't feel that keeping him is fair to any of the dogs. So, to prepare him for his future home, we visited the vet, got him his shots and an overall health evaluation.

We will be fostering him until we can find him the PERFECT home. I already know I will be really sad to see him go.

I have taken more photos of him which I will post in an update next week.
